How to be prepared

Here's a helpful list of do's and Don'ts to help you have the best experience.

Do's

  • Stay hydrated: before your session, during and after! This may come as a no brainer. Making sure you are well hydrated will ensure better skin conditions for your healing time and optimal conditions for your skin during the process. Secondly it will help your body as people often experience what I call "tattoo sweats" during your session.

  • Have a light breakfast before your session: A light meal will often help your body tremendously to have the energy you will need during a tattoo session

  • + if you are a hangry (uncomfortable hunger pains) person, snacks will be a huge help.

  • Proper Breathing Technique: This may seem over the top but I promise it makes all the difference. Taking deep breaths (drawing in air for 4 second through the nose followed by 4 second exhale through the mouth) focusing on controlled breaths will help keep your muscles stay loose, Try practicing this before your session.

  • Holding your breath during any discomfort will constrict your muscles over time leading to involuntary muscle spasm and can lead to heightened anxiety.

  • Get Good Rest:  Getting enough hours of rest will ensure that you don't "pitter out" energy wise for your tattoo.

  • Schedule Wisely: for example you may not want to schedule a tattoo session a day before a pool day or tropical beach vacation.

  • Tattoo healing time takes a minimum of 2 weeks. You will NOT be able to swim or have your tattoo exposed to direct sunlight!

Don'ts

  • No alcohol the night prior to your tattoo session: (Trust me I've made this mistake before and I've literally "tapped out" of a session before.)

  • You will be dehydrated, irritable and it will make it a more physically and mentally challenging session. You will still be charged for the estimated session time, be considerate and please be prepared for your session.

  • No test of strength before your session: This could look like starting an extreme workout regiment (ex: spartan race, bike race starting or CrossFit training,) or start restrictive diets (such as fasting) day(s) before your session. Do not set your body up for back to back tests of physical endurance. Ladies be considerate of your time of the month as it is typically already a painful time and adding more pain may not be ideal.

  • Consider Carefully who you bring to your tattoo session:  (If you must bring someone) make sure the person you bring is  going to be helpful in keeping you calm/distracted in conversation or be willing to go on a food run for you. DO NOT  bring someone who makes you nervous or only makes you laugh or will be impatiently waiting for your session to be over as a tattoo session can take several hours.

  • Don't withhold any medical information from your tattoo artist: Please disclose any allergies including food allergies. I have lots of different inks, soaps and lotions, I can accommodate if I know ahead of time. If you are on any medications like blood thinners, blood pressure medication I need to be made aware.

  • I do my best to monitor how you are handling the tattoo process. If I notice an unusual amount of bleeding I will consider it an issue and cut your session short. If I'm made aware of a preexisting condition and you have gotten your doctor/health professionals consent to be tattooed, I will work with caution and work based of your person comfortability.

  • Don't take any "pain" medications without checking with your artist: Aspirin and Tylenol have blood thinning properties and can affect the tattoo or healing process. Smoking or ingesting THC has been proven to spike anxiety, so enjoy it after your session. DO NOT take any sedatives or tranquilizers.
